Happy 2015,

With the New Year comes a fresh new start.  Time to wipe the slate clean.  This is the time of year when I literally spend 2-3 days planning my new year.  From finances to fears to goals and aspirations to holding myself accountable through it all.

Remember the Winston Churchill quote,”He who fails to plan, plans to fail.”  So how do you plan your new year?

Here is some inspiration to start your 2015 off the right way.

I start off by creating a mind map of my yearly goals.  I am a very visual individual and it took me awhile to find the proper way for me to be creative and effective with my goal setting. I found mind mapping a few years back and it really has helped with my visualization and accountability.

I start with a clean sheet of paper or a white board and write down two words, “Personal” and “Career.”  I circle the words and my mind map grows from there.

For “Career” I keep it simple.  Two maybe Three goals to keep focused.

For “Personal” you can get creative and work toward being well rounded.  I tend to like to include one growth goal, one health goal, one financial goal, one giving goal, and one FUN goal.  Yes make a goal to have FUN too.

To be more colorful and creative use colored markers, crayons, or pencils to differentiate the goals.  There is no right or wrong way to do this so use my example below as inspiration and see where it takes you.

One suggestion I will give is this; keep it simple.  Big goals and dreams are great but don’t overwhelm yourself from the start.  If you end up crossing off goals faster than anticipated you can always go back and add more.

So get off your ass and do some 2015 planning and goal setting.  Get going, cross them off, smile and laugh.

Good Luck,

Cort
